I'm actually starting to get used to this design. I mean you can access the pilot seat from the front and the loading door is also a ramp. How convenient is that!
A sleek new design. Faster, stronger, deadlier... Still prone to crashing, but I'll just chalk that up to user error. Speaking of which, doesn't a Pelican crash in 'every' Halo game?
I don't suppose you've read Karen's new novel, Thursday War; but it mentions that a small group of Engineers repair a Pelican nicknamed "Tart-Cart" after it had one of its engines damaged from a Phantom fore Plasma Cannon. They almost completely redesign the Pelican (Giving it a hologram-display in its troop-bay, side-mounted turrets, sleeker design, etc)
I also remember the Infinity being mentioned in the novel had at least seven Engineers on board. So it may be possible that some of the upgrades given to Tart-Cart (e.g. turrets, holographic-display in the troop-bay, etc) to make it more combat effective, or something like that.
So who knows, I can see similarities to the upgrades for TC here in this variant of the Pelican shown in Reach (I believe that's what its designation is on the wiki, correct me if I'm wrong), but it may also be a completely new Pelican.
Anyways, I hoped my overly large comment helped in a way. If not, I apologize.
